Art Therapy workshop with CACACA ( Chinese Association for Cancer Care, 英國華人關懷癌症協會  http://cacaca.org.uk  ) was an one hour introductory workshop which allowed participants to experience what art therapy means to them. It was held as a part of the monthly gathering of CACACA in a venue of a church at Soho London. Initiated by Studio PSH,  with the support of CACACA the workshop was aimed to promote & strengthen mental wellness in particular for those who are impacted by cancer. There are also family members & volunteers participating on a regular basis as emotional support. With a Christianity background, the gathering was started with praise and singing, physical exercise led by volunteers.  A brief explanation of art therapy then followed by a 45 minutes of drawing practice. Towards the end, it was concluded by the sharing of the participants about what they drew and felt about for their artworks.

No. of participants: 23 adults, Chinese ethnics

Theme: My Emotion wheel*

Medium: A4 paper & watercolor pencils (non-toxic, certified to UK standards)

Brief: To draw the recent day/week of your emotions & experiences.

Some emotion words were suggested in part of the worksheet which served as a guide for the participants if they had difficulties in sorting their feelings.  The participants were also free to use their own words/expression both positive & negative.    They were free to draw intuitively whatever prompt to their conscious mind. They were reminded that the paper is safe which can be drawn without judgment. They were encouraged to enjoy the process, being themselves at the present moment with the brushes and colors.
